The concept of a micro school opens the door for so much more than what a traditional classroom can offer. Students in my full-time learning pod will receive individualized instruction as well as structured enhanced social skills through group activities and project-based learning. I challenge my students to go outside of their comfort zone and reach their fullest potential.
The school takes place in a family home. Visits are available upon request.
Regarding my reading curriculum, I teach specific phonics and vocabulary instruction through the Orton Gillingham Multisensory Reading Program so students can learn how to decode unknown words through various sounds and word parts. I also use Columbia University’s Teachers College Readers and Writers Workshop Program to teach students various reading comprehension skills and to enhance their writing development.
US History, World Cultures, and field trips.
I implement a similar mentality to my mathematics instruction by incorporating visuals, rhymes and hand gestures in my instruction and allow students to use manipulatives to practice new concepts. I have teaching experience with Go Math! and Singapore Math’s Math in Focus curriculum programs.
I like to incorporate as many hands-on experiments as possible while teaching science topics. Mystery Science and Generation Genius have both been great resources to use for my science instruction.
Marie attended Rutgers University for her Bachelor’s in Psychology and her Master’s in Elementary Education. She’s been teaching in New Jersey for 7 years and has tutored privately throughout that time period. Marie has taught students in grades K-5 in all content areas, including students with learning disabilities.
Marie’s educational philosophy is that every student can be successful if they are provided with an engaging learning environment and full teacher support. In her experience, visual and hands-on learning approaches are best and she applies various methods in both literacy and mathematics to help students develop those core skills. She strives to create a fun and nurturing classroom that meets every student’s individual needs.
