Safety is our highest priority, for your family, the students we work with and the teacher. We’re working closely with medical professionals to provide guidelines for the health and safety of each at-home microschool.
Only certified teachers are able to join and typically they have multiple years of experience teaching in the public or private school system in your state. We perform background checks, demo lessons and have an intense interviewing process.
In some cases yes, we’ve found that this is often preferable for most families and have found that just because children are the same age doesn’t mean they’re moving at the same. Each child will move through a specific subject matter at a different pace and the benefit of small classrooms and a dedicated experienced instructor is that they can adapt the lessons to each age group.
We also utilize our wider network to provide differentiated instruction for children that have different learning needs and interests. “Specialist classes” are available online to provide special needs for special children.
This is up to you and the teacher, we support the usage of any curriculum (or a mix and match) that is appropriate for your group and the interest of the child. You can use one focused on the state standards in your local geographic area, you can mix and match (we’ve seen a Montessori school mixed with Singaporean math).
This will depend on the needs of the family and what the curriculum they agree to with the teacher. If needed we can work with the class to provide snacks, Chromebooks, student workbooks and materials if necessary.
This is also dependent on the needs and interests of the families involved. Some choose to start school at the time a normal school day would begin (~8:30am) but others have chosen to begin school as late as 10am.
A typical day runs ~ 6 hours with breaks for snacks and exercise for the students. In the summer days typically run ~4 hours.
Yes. We see the in-home microschool as time for the teacher to work closely with the small group of students, we think this intimacy is what enables real learning to happen. However, a single teacher can’t be expected to know everything and so we’re constantly recruiting online tutors, teachers, and experts to act as a 1:1 tutor or guide for your child’s interests.
If you’d like to talk to someone well versed in rocketry, baking, electronics or coding, we can supply you with a great 1:1 tutor for your child.
After signing up and choosing your teacher you will be sent a survey and interviewed to ensure that you meet the basic requirements for health and safety.
Once class starts you’ll be expected to drop your child off at the requested time with the teacher of your choice.
After the trial week you’ll be billed weekly for the time with the teacher via an online credit card or bank transfer. If you require a different payment or schedule we’re happy to accommodate you, our goal is to provide a best in class experience for you and your child not to be sticklers for payment methods and schedules.
We will work with you, your child, and the instructor to ensure that your child is getting the proper educational experience. We also work with online specialists who can meet with your child regularly to provide specific instruction for you needs.
